About

About Southport Psychology

We are a team of clinical and counselling psychologist conveniently located in South Calgary. Our goal is to offer our clients excellence in psychological assessment and therapy. We strive to combine a well-rounded understanding of psychological theories and research findings with a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to every one of our clients. We understand that our clients are coming to us with challenging problems, and possibly at a time of confusion and even desperation. We look forward to the opportunity of coming alongside them, supporting them, and helping them chart a clear course towards better health, increased contentment, more self-reliance, and improved relationships.
All of our psychologists at Southport Psychology have completed their graduate level training at accredited institutions, and have over 50 years of combined clinical experience. Each of our therapists has been trained to provide general psychological services, but has also developed individual areas of interest and expertise. Together, we are pleased to provide assessment and treatment for problems such as depression, all anxiety disorders (panic attacks, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, PTSD, and OCD), substance addictions and behavioural addictions, work stress and return-to-work issues, grief and loss, childhood trauma, health problems (including chronic conditions, pain, and rehabilitation issues) and marital/relationship problems. Specific assessments are also provided (e.g., ADHD, psycho-educational assessment, career planning, and personality). We provide services to both adolescents and adults, including seniors.
While we mainly use cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) in providing services to our clients, our practice is also influenced by other therapy models and interventions that have been found to be useful with certain problems. While much of our focus is on the problems our clients are facing today and on finding better ways of solving or managing those problems in the days ahead, we are aware that some problems are rooted in earlier experiences and earlier relationships. At times, treatment may include some exploration of those earlier experiences. Specific therapeutic approaches and treatment goals are discussed with each client individually at the beginning of the therapy process.
